Choices

Conflicting values

The decision about whether to go back to an existing job after maternity leave is a daunting one. Many of us waste hours, days, even weeks of precious time worrying about what to do, changing our minds, and then making a decision at the last minute praying that it’s the right one and that it will all work out.

One of the reasons why this decision is so difficult is because we experience a conflict between the person we were before we had children and the person we are now. In other words, we have conflicting values.

Decision-making made easy

So how can we resolve this conflict and make the right decision? One way of doing this is with Coaching.  Coaching is an excellent way of gaining a better perspective on your situation, thoroughly exploring all your options (including the ones you didn’t think you had) and resolving conflicting values. Once you have done this, decision making becomes easy.

When it comes to making the decision about staying home with your children full time or being a working mum, there is no objectively right or wrong choice (despite what the media says). There is only the decision that is right for you.  With Coaching I can help you:

  • understand and prioritise the values that drive the decisions you make
  • thoroughly explore all your options and the pros and cons of each
  • find the decision that is right for you; and
  • when you’ve made your decision, help to prepare you for what lies ahead.
